Julie and Colin entered Lorado, Texas on April 13th, after riding 2,400 km through Mexico in 18 days. They travelled amidst dry deserts, past snow capped mountains, over the continental divide, alongside donkeys and through friendly communities.
Entering and travelling through Mexico proved to be more challenging than expected. Fire baracades and protests blocked the border, and narrow roads crowded with crazy drivers dominated the interior.
Colin and Julie left Limon, Costa Rica on March 15 and in 13 days cycled 1700 km through 5 Central American countries: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
Colin and Julie went to the seaside town of Peurto Viejo for the weekend to test ride their new Norco VR2 bicycles. The super light bikes ride like the wind and even handle pot-holed and dirt roads well. The view from the saddle included spectacular beaches, wild rainforest jungle, howler monkies, and charming villages.
Colin and Julie are preparing for the next leg of the expedition. Their rowboat, Ondine, is being shipped to Vancouver and they will soon be departing on two speedy Norco bikes.
After 145 days at sea, Julie and Colin rowed almost 10,000 km from Lisbon, Portugual to Limon, Costa Rica. They are the first ever to row from Europe to continental North America!
Julie and Colin spent 121 days at sea until stopping in the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia for a break enroute to Costa Rica. As the duo landed in the Caribbean, Julie also became the first Canadian woman to row across an ocean!
